Creating a meaningful time capsule or guide doesn’t require a lot of special equipment, but a few carefully chosen supplies can make a big difference in protecting what’s written and what’s inside.
The Container
Start with a container that will protect everything inside.
- Heavy-duty plastic bin with secure lid (large – 27-gallon)

- Metal storage container (for long-term durability)
- Zippered fabric storage box (especially nice for weddings and babies)
Archival Paper (very important – regular paper can yellow over time.)

- 100% Cotton Tissue Paper (for packing and layering)
- Plastic bags (various sizes for items)
Historical “Day in the Life” Prints
- For a meaningful addition, consider including a “Day in the Life” print from a specific year (such as a birth year, wedding year, or other important date).
- They provide a snapshot of what life looked like at that time and adds depth to your time capsule.
- You can find these by searching “Day you were born printable” or similar.
